Topic: Information on a Dayton Tractors

Question:

I'm looking for ANY information for Dayton tractors. I was given a Dayton 16hp. Electric Start, 5 Speed, 38 Inch tractor. It doesn't have blade or deck, also the starter is missing. The tractor is in pretty good condition. Can someone out there help me? Also does anyone out there own a Dayton?

I checked under the seat and here is the Model # 3Z935 D114D S/N 41-025-4401 Dayton 16hp 38" 5 Speed electric. I've checked in depth for Dayton, but haven't come up with a clue.

Answers:

From Chuck in California...
Regarding the person looking for Dayton tractor info. I have fully restored a Dayton model #147-990-135. It is one of only a very few that were painted red and black.
It was made by MTD and was NEVER sold by Grainger. (This info comes from a LONG TIME employee of MTD) I have a service manual, schematic for the electrical and info on where to get Dayton parts on the West coast.

The Dayton tractor name was a Grainger item, MTD made almost all of their tractors.

From Carlos Cardosa:
I saw your trivia section on lawn tractors and the answer to the question as to where to find parts for a Dayton Tractor. Contact Grainger Parts at 1-800-323-0620 and you should find parts for the Dayton Tractor.
